Overview
Niacin is a heat-stable, water-soluble B Vitamin also known as Vitamin B3 or Niacinamide. It was first discovered when scientists were looking for the cause of pellagra. Niacin is absorbed in the small intestine and excreted in the urine. The human body uses Niacin in more than 50 chemical reactions. It is needed by the body to extract energy from fat, carbohydrates, and protein. A natural cholesterol regulator, Niacin often works as well as prescription medications for persons with mild cholesterol problems. This formula uses nicotinic acid, the form of Niacin that has shown promise in lowering LDL levels of cholesterol. Like all members of the B family of vitamins, Niacin plays a role in energy metabolism. Our formula uses Niacin from inositol hexanicotinate because Inositol hexanicotinate does not cause uncomfortable side effects such as flushing, tingling and itching commonly associated with the use of standard Niacin. Inositol hexanicotinate allows the Niacin molecules it surrounds to slowly metabolize in the body, releasing Niacin over a period of time. In clinical tests Niacin from inositol hexanicotinate has been found to be more effective than Niacin to lower blood cholesterol levels.
